TALENT AFRICA STATEMENT 17 May 2020

Dear Family Of Performers

We trust this message finds you all in good health and safe in these peculiar and uncertain times.

The Covid-19 pandemic has come as a devastating shock to almost everyone, not only in South Africa, but around the world.

We have no certainty of dates for re-opening of theatres and performing arts gatherings, with that in mind please read the following information carefully:

Unfortunately, as a result of the National State of Disaster, we have been forced to change the format of Talent Africa Nationals to an online platform for 2020.

Despite the challenges that we now face, we have embraced the “New Normal” and by going digital you will still have an opportunity to do what you do best, PERFORM.

In accordance with our recent social media posts, please note the procedure for the online submissions:

1. A video of your item must be sent to Nicola via WHATSAPP on 082 375 9302;

2. A compilation of videos will be made (approximately 10 – 12 items at a time) and will be uploaded to a Facebook Watch Party;

3. We will send out a message with a link to the Talent Africa Page where the watch party will be hosted. We will post a program specific to videos on the relevant Whatsapp groups and Facebook page. Family and friends will be able to tune in and support the contestants. If you don’t want your video shared on social media, please email Melanie at melanie@talentafrica.co.za stating so. Your video will then be judged by the judges privately;

4. Judges will score every item and results will be captured independently;

5. Medals will be sent out along with any certificates, merchandise and / or FPASA tracksuits which have been ordered at an additional courier fee. Please note: NO tracksuits will be sent out, without a performance video being submitted;

6. Talent Africa merchandise will be for sale online here: talentafrica.co.za/merchandise , and will be available for ordering no later than 1 June 2020. Please place your orders online;

7. All videos must meet the following criteria: maximum 2 minutes long. Contestants must be appropriately dressed in costumes. Drama and Eisteddfod DOES NOT need to be black only; Video must be sent with the following information. NAME, SURNAME, STYLE (vocal/dance, etc), GENRE (open/hip hop, etc), CONTESTANT NUMBER and AGE;

8. SOUND QUALITY WILL NOT BE PENALISED! The following criteria will be adhered to when judging: TECHNIQUE, CONFIDENCE, STAGE PRESENCE, OUTFIT, AGE APPROPRIATE CONTENT, ORIGINALITY. In the case of VOCALISTS, please make use of a microphone or a substitute object as a microphone in order to gauge your mic technique;

9. NO SCORING OF ITEMS WILL TAKE PLACE UNTIL FEES ARE PAID IN FULL;

10. NO POSTAGE OF ANY ITEMS WILL TAKE PLACE UNTIL THE SCORING PROCESS IS COMPLETE;

11. ALL SOLO ITEMS CAN BE SENT VIA WHATSAPP (i.e. ACTING, EISTEDDOFD, DANCE, MODELLING, INSTRUMENTAL, VOCAL, CREATIVE WORKS AND PHOTOGENIC ITEMS). Groups will be discussed at a later stage (if you have an existing video of your groups, feel free to submit them);

12. Please do not ask us to choose your items, photos or outfits for you. That is up to your discretion;

13. Please direct all queries to Shawn at 076 910 3009 on WHATSAPP;

14. CLOSING DATE FOR VIDEO SUBMISSIONS: 15 JUNE 2020;

This year’s Team South Africa qualifying contestants will have their qualification carried over to the next AVAILABLE International trip/competition.

Unfortunately, Talent Africa will not be in a position to refund any participants their entry fees or associated costs.

At the time of the decision to restructure, contracts have been signed, orders have been placed, monies have been paid and work had been done. Major expenditure items including T-shirts, medals, certificates, venues and many other costs had been incurred.

Regrettably, when the National State of Disaster was announced, all that remained was for Nationals to begin and for you to showcase your incredible talent.

However, Talent Africa Nationals continues, although not in ideal circumstances, we will do our best in giving every performer a chance or opportunity to achieve their dreams and goals.

Stay Home and Stay Safe!

Kind regards,

Talent Africa Team
