CATEGORY DETAILS - ACTING
Commercial: Commercials should focus on commercial products, food, home and office products. Can also be an event representation, spokesperson piece (anti-poaching etc). Commercial should be committed to memory. Costumes and props allowed.
Comedic Monologue: Material selection is at contestants' discretion... A form of entertainment, comedic solo or a prolonged humorous talk by A SINGLE speaker. Monologue should be committed to memory.
Dramatic Monologue: Material selection is at contestants' discretion... A form in which a single character, addressing a silent auditor at a critical moment, reveals him or herself and the dramatic situation. Monologue should be committed to memory
Legit (theatre) Monologue: Material selection is at contestants' discretion... Monologue should be committed to memory Piece can be an own composition.
Open: Any monologue may be performed, age appropriate ( Afrikaans - only in SA – NOT FOR INTERNATIONALS)

CATEGORY DETAILS - DANCE

Acrobatics/Gymnastics: Consists of tumbling movements incorporated to music.
Ballet/Pointe: Consists of ballet or pointe technique, must include classical steps and movement.
Hip-Hop: Consists of fusion, street, funk, MTV style movements. No obscenities in music allowed, please censor music.
Jazz: Consists of jazz technique utilizing up tempo music.
Lyrical/Contemporary/Modern: Consists of jazz, ballet technique. Interpretative movement, demonstrating strength, control and lyric interpretation.
Musical Theatre/Song and dance: Consists of Broadway/Theatre style movements. Song and dance: Dance movements and vocal performance, track must NOT have lead vocals but background tracks are allowed.
Open: Consists of all other dance/movement categories ie: folkloric/ethnic, disco, freestyle, etc.
Tap: Consists of tap technique, classic, contemporary, stomp, etc... Must wear tap shoes

CATEGORY DETAILS - EISTEDDFOD

Prepared Reading: Emphasis will be on the interpretation of text and expressive vocal performance. Participants are judged on fluency, eye contact with the audience, different characters/situations etc. through facial and vocal expression. Standard of pieces must be applicable to the age of the performer. Note: Pieces must be read and not merely recited. Electronic media, magazines, books may be used.
Poetry (Dramatized/Undramatized):
Definition Dramatized: Any type of poem may be performed as long as it is age appropriate and of a suitable length, using functional movement, gesture and speech. Performance wear is at the performers own discretion.
Definition Undramatized: Any type of poem may be performed as long as it is age appropriate and of a suitable length. Performance wear is at the performers own discretion.
Public Speaking (Persuasive/Informative)
Definition Persuasive: The speech should persuade the audience on a certain issue. The presentation should be interesting and entertaining. It is compulsory for participants to make use of cue cards but must at the same time not be note bound.
Definition Informative: The speech should inform the audience on a certain topic or subject. The presentation should be interesting and entertaining. It is compulsory for participants to make use of cue cards but must at the same time not be note bound.
Mime: No speech may be used. Multi-media may be used. Participants will be adjudicated on the use of movement and space. Background music may be used to create mood. Mime attire should be worn if possible. Advisable to ‘announce’ topic by using an A4 white cardboard with the topic written on it.
Scene (including duologue) : A dramatized performance (comic or dramatic) by two or more participants of an extract from a play. Where props are used, participants must be able to carry it on/off performance space themselves.

CATEGORY DETAILS - VOCAL (INCLUDING BACKTRACK VOCAL AS WELL AS INSTRUMENT VOCAL )

BACKTRACK VOCAL : The performer sings while a backtrack is playing providing the music.
INSTRUMENT VOCAL : The performer sings while playing a musical instrument to provide the music, no backtrack.
Broadway/Classical: Contestant must perform either a Broadway, Off Broadway or Theatre show tune or a classical/operatic style song.
Country: Contestant must perform a traditional or contemporary country style song.
Inspirational/Gospel: Contestant must perform a song lyrically focused on matters concerned with the Christian faith or referencing lyrics of a Christian / Inspirational nature.
Open: Any style of song may be performed.
Pop: Contestant must perform a Popular song.
Jazz / R&B: Also known as Rhythm and Blues. Contestants must perform an urban, jazz based music with a heavy, insistent beat.
Rock: Also known as rock & roll. Contestants must perform a rock song.
Contestants may sing a Capella, accompany themselves or sing to a music track without lead vocals and preferably without background vocals
Song may be original, but will be judged on VOCAL performance NOT on song writing

CATEGORY DETAILS - MODELLING

Casual: All ages, model will showcase casual wear, while walking, turning and posing
Fitness: All ages, models will wear fitness wear, showcase toned bodies. Model will showcase fitness wear while walking, turning and posing
Formal: All ages, Model will showcase dressy or formal wear, while walking, turning and posing. Short or long dresses are allowed.
High Fashion: model will showcase black, form fitting outfit (own discretion, pants, skirts ect.) with hair slicked back in a pony tail, while walking, turning and posing
Spokes model: All ages, model will speak about a product or event. (own discretion, props may be used) Time limit 2:00
Swimwear: All ages, model will showcase swimwear while walking, turning and posing. Cover ups allowed. Shoes optional. NO flip flops.
Runway: All ages "fun", Avantgarde, design your own outfit. Does not have to be made from waste material.

    All models may only walk 1 & 1/2 T-ramp
RUNWAY & HIGH FASHION: 1 straight ramp (no T)

CATEGORY DETAILS - SONGWRITING

    Judging is based on song structure, concept, musicality, interpretation, rhythm, style and over-all appeal.
    SONGWRITER SELF: song must be performed by one of the songwriters of the song being performed. Original song will be critiqued as well as vocal and musical performance/track of song. Should the Singer/Songwriter not be able to accompany themselves, ONE accompanist is allowed, but is not allowed to sing. Musical track is also allowed, but no lead vocals.
  SONG ONLY: song may be performed by any vocalist, accompanying themselves, with ONE accompanist if they cannot accompany themselves, or with a track with no lead vocal on it. Performance of song and accompanist will not be evaluated, only the “song” will be critiqued.

CATEGORY DETAILS - MODELLING PHOTOGRAPHIC (NATIONALS & INTERNATIONALS ONLY)

Commercial print: All ages, colour / black and white picture must be with a product or campaign.
Catalogue print: All ages, full length colour / black and white picture showcasing the outfit (as would be seen in a clothing magazine or catalogue).
Headshot: All ages, colour / black and white headshot. (head and shoulders only)
2 Photos per category, any size. Must be clearly marked with name, age, category and contestant number.

CATEGORY DETAILS - CREATIVE WORKS (NATIONALS ONLY)

SIZE OF WORKS:
No artworks will be accepted if they are smaller than A5
SUBMISSIONS:
All artworks must either be Mounted or Framed (Unless they have been done on block canvas)
Work not mounted or framed will not be accepted
Name, Surname, Age, Style/Media and Contestant number must be attached to the artwork for marking purposes.
CATEGORIES:

Drawing:
- Drawing is a form of visual art in which a person uses various drawing instruments to mark paper or another two-dimensional medium
- Instruments include graphite pencils, pen and ink, inked brushes, wax colour pencils, crayons, charcoal, chalk, pastels
    Painting:
- Painting is the practice of applying paint and colour to a solid surface
- The medium (A paint's medium refers to what carries a paint's (colours) for instance watercolour or acrylic) is commonly applied to the base with a brush, but other implements, such as knives, sponges, and airbrushes, can be used
- Acrylic paint, Gouache, Oil paint, Tempera, Watercolour
Sculpture:
- Sculpture is the branch of the visual arts that operates in three dimensions
- The minimum requirement is 5cm x 5cm
- Clay, stone, metal, ceramics, wood and other materials
Photography:
- Any type of camera may be used: digital, fixed-focus or professional
- Any subject matter may be used
- Plagiarism of existing images will not be accepted
- No digital editing or enhancements
- No inappropriate images will be accepted
- Photography should be mounted individually unless intended for the pieces to be adjudicated as one.
